Honorary Consul for Massachusetts
Tito J. Banda
Tito J. Banda, born in Zambia to Alice Nyuma Banda and the esteemed freedom fighter Hyden Dingiswayo Banda.
Residing in Massachusetts for the past 25 years after moving to New England from Washington, D.C., Tito has established a significant presence in the region. He pursued studies in Industrial Psychology and Human Development at Lesley University and the University of Massachusetts.
Upon arriving in Boston, Tito observed that the Zambian diaspora population was relatively small and dispersed across the New England region. Over time, this population has grown exponentially. As an active community organizer and advocate, Tito co-founded the Zambian Association of New England (ZANE).
The organization was initially created in response to the urgent need to repatriate the body of a deceased Zambian who had no immediate relatives in the USA, except for a sister she was supporting. From this tragedy emerged ZANE, with the initial goal of aiding the Zambian community in accessing services and navigating the complexities of settling in the region. ZANE has since played a pivotal role in providing aid and social services, organizing annual Independence gala dinners that celebrate Zambians’ achievements and philanthropy, and hosting volunteer medical practitioners who offer essential services in under served areas.
Tito is married to Sally-Rose Banda, and they have two children, a son and a daughter, who are currently pursuing their university studies in South Africa. Tito is eager to engage with leaders in industry, education, and health sectors to foster partnerships that support Zambia’s progressive agenda of economic and democratic development.
A son of one of Zambia’s founding fathers, Tito is profoundly honored by this appointment. He feels a deep sense of legacy and commitment to advancing Zambia’s growth and development.
He looks forward to representing the Motherland with distinction under the esteemed leadership of His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, honoring the trust placed in him to serve the people of the Republic of Zambia.
May God bless the United States of America and the Republic of Zambia.
