The Auditor General’s Office to sign MoU with the Public Procurement Authority
The office of the Auditor General is finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed soon with the office of the Public Procurement Authority whose main aim will be to allow the former monitor large procurement contracts.
Auditor General Anna Chifungula says once signed the MoU will enable her office inspect and monitor large contracts to ensure they conform to laid down regulations.
Mrs. Chifungula was speaking in Washington DC today when she paid a courtesy call on the Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States Palan Mulonda at the Zambian Embassy.
The Auditor General said with the signing of the MoU, the office of the Public Procurement Authority will have the responsibility to inform her office of large procurement contracts.
Currently the office of Auditor General has agreements with three security wings, The Zambia Police (ZP), The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
Mrs. Chifungula is in the United States capital Washington DC, to attend a meeting organized by the working group on Money laundering and corruption. The meeting is being held under the auspices of the US General Accountability Office.
Mrs. Chifungula said the meeting aims at coming up with strategizes on combating fraud, money laundering and corruption. She added that the meeting will set standards of fighting the vices in the member countries.
The international working group comprises 23 countries, with 8 coming from Africa.
And in welcoming the Auditor General, Ambassador Mulonda thanked Mrs. Chifungula for calling on the mission in Washington DC.
