Ambassador Kapambwe Commends US Diaspora Community for COVID-19 Fight Support

Washington D.C., Monday, May 18, 2020 – Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Lazarous Kapambwe has expressed profound gratitude to the Zambian community in the United States for their generous donation of various medical equipment to Government to support the state’s efforts in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a message of appreciation to the president of the Organisation of Zambians Abroad (OZA) Sidique Geloo, Ambassador Kapambwe said the gesture of generosity was a clear demonstration of their commitment to the well-being of their homeland. He said the donation would go a long way in providing equipment that medical personnel required to help them in their day to day work.
“On behalf of His Excellency President Edgar Lungu, the people of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf and the Mission in Washington D.C. may I take this opportunity to commend you for your generous donation of medical supplies to government. Your initiative and efforts to not only acquire such equipment but go the extra mile to ensure that it is shipped in time is a clear demonstration of your commitment and love for your country,” Ambassador Kapambwe said adding that the donated materials were a huge boost to the health sector and would benefit many people.
The Mission in Washington D.C. partnered with the Zambian Diaspora, led by the Organisation of Zambians Abroad to secure over 100 high quality hospital beds and mattresses, 2,000 complete Personal Protective Gowns, gloves, bandages and other materials.
To facilitate shipment of the equipment, the partnership organised a fundraising Global Virtual Concert and Fashion Show which took place on 16th May 2020. The event attracted hundreds of of people and featured various artistes, health professionals, DJs, businessmen, diplomats and the participation of Zambians across the world.
