Moonbows Light Up Victoria Falls

[1]

Whoever said “don’t go chasing waterfalls“ has never been to the Victoria Falls. The spectacular cascade is considered the largest stretch of falling water in the world and is among the Seven Natural Wonders in the world. But very few people know to visit during the phenomenon that is known as a Moonbow or Lunar Rainbow.

For three days during every month moonbows light up the night sky at the Victoria Falls. It’s one of the few places on earth where this natural spectacle occurs regularly and can be witnessed with ease.

Lunar Rainbows are produced by moonlight rather than sunlight and are far more rare and subtle than their day-time equivalent. When a full moon is bright enough to have its light reflected by a waterfall or raindrops, a beautiful dancing rainbow glistens in the night sky. As the night moves on, the moonbows lower deeper into the gorge, casting their greatest glimpse of colour.
